We already know that shoes can be made from pineapple leaf fibers (Piñatex), recycled plastic PET bottles and natural cork. Meanwhile, a lot of vegan shoes (including those available in our store) are made from microfiber. What exactly is microfiber?
Microfiber is a kind of micro fibers formed from a mix of polyester and nylon. If it looks like a suede, it contains an admixture of cotton which is softer and has a completely different texture. Such fibers are very thin - 30 times thinner than cotton and 100 times thinner than a human hair!
The shape, size and fiber’s composition may vary – everything depends on the desired result that we want to achieve. It can differ in various ways - form, strength, absorbency... What is important, it is recyclable!
Microfiber used for shoes’ production nowadays is of very good quality - durable, breathable, waterproof and often confusingly similar to a soft, natural leather. That makes vegans very happy especially those who surely contribute to the development of this market, expecting great quality alternatives to leather, rather than cheap and bad quality products.
Remember that the demand impacts supply! Let us not be afraid to use this power and make choices consciously. There is a really wide range of good products that we can choose from!
P.S. And if you want to find shoes from microfiber in our store, check out all shoes that look like leather or suede;)
Enjoy!
