Being a conscious consumer is not easy. Every choice brings its' consequences along.
If you are not living a wild, jungle life - it is hard to be 100% environmentally neutral.
But we can make our choices BETTER.
Today we would like to share a few words about OEKO-TEX certificate. The microfibre we make Fairma's shoes and accessories has it.
We have been inspired to write about it by some of your questions about microfibre in terms of being eco-friendly. In the end - it is synthetic.
As most of our clients already know harmful substances are often used to manufacture clothing, footwear and accessories. These substances can be harmful to human health and the environment as well. Most impacted are people working in factories producing these items but also those, working in warehouses or even stores, where deliveries are being unpacked. The clients as well - if the product they buy has a direct contact with their body. Babies, young children, the elderly and allergy sufferers are especially sensitive to these harmful substances.
Chemical agents and substances used in leather tanning (especially dangerous and still widely used chrome VI) and textile dyeing go directly to the environment breaking it and harming local communities. Textile dyeing is the second largest polluter of water globally, and the fashion industry produces 20 percent of global wastewater.
That is why we should check if products we buy or textiles they are made of have suitable certification to avoid harmful substances and minimize our environmental impact. One of such certificates is OEKO-TEX.
OEKO-TEX’s independent certification ensure that textiles are harmless to health, environmentally friendly and manufactured in a fair way.
It also means it is antiallergic.
Wearing shoes made from OEKO-TEX certified microfibre we are safe from harmful substances and we minimize our environmental impact.
Microfibre is also recyclable - which is worth remembering when our shoes will be completly worn down!
